Website maintenance plans

Free your time to get busy with your business

Why Website Maintenance is Key to your Business

Just like any software, websites require routine maintenance to keep working. Avoiding website maintenance is equivalent to not servicing a vehicle. Your car would not last very long if you didn’t look after its maintenance. Well, the same is true for your website. Routine maintenance ensures that your website is running at it’s best, is ready for your customers and is showcasing your business at its finest.

Websites are not a “Set and Forget”

If you don’t have website maintenance carried out regularly, you may actually be losing money. When visitors go to a website and find things wrong, you lose their trust, they look no further, they don’t stick around. Some website owners never check their website to see how or if it’s functioning at all. Overlooked issues and/or downtime can lose you potential customers.

The Benefits of Maintenance

Many people don’t realise the benefits of site maintenance:

Your website performance, it’s load time, availability, security, is all dependent on both WordPress and plugins being kept up-to-date and functioning as they should as well as monitoring your site for issues.

Your website growth, it’s latest content, analytics monitoring and design updates, are all dependent on you ensuring that all updates to the website are performed in a controlled and error-free fashion.

Maintenance Workflow

At WebUp Website Designs we take great care to backup a website before commencing any maintenance – then review the website after updates for any issues. Our maintenance platform keeps a record of the software we update, so if there is ever an issue we can regress to the pre-update version. Also available in our monthly maintenance plans are up-time statistics to assess availability and security scans to identify comprises to your site through hacking.

Dangers of Do It Yourself Maintenance

Maintaining your site yourself could cost you more than you may think. If you just update from your WordPress admin, you wouldn’t have a record of what was done. If an update to a plugin created an issue detected only later, it would be difficult to know what changed and how you should revert back without restoring a very old backup (and possibly losing content changes, sales orders, contact entries, you name it). Time spent doing-it-yourself, is time that could have been spent on your core business activities.

It Costs More to Fix Than to Maintain

Inexperience and neglect can damage the look, reliability and functionality of your website which, in turn, affects your reputation with your customers. When that happens, you have a choice to make. One, you try and fix it yourself, which may or may not be successful. Or two, you can pay the price for someone experienced to investigate, fix and then check it. Just like your car, it costs more – in time, money & inconvenience – to fix damage, rather than to prevent it. Regular oil changes help keep your car running smoothly, regular site maintenance helps keeps your web site running.

Call in a Professional

Why not deal with what you know best and let us deal with what we know best? Would you try your own surgery or try to fly your own airliner? Then why try to maintain your own website if you’re not a web professional? By securing an experienced web professional to maintain your site properly, you are actually saving potential lost sales and lost visitors.

If you’re interested in establishing a maintenance package for your web site, read on to see how we can help you.

Our maintenance packages

These are the four pillars of our maintenance packages to help keep your site healthy.

Support

Our packages come with an allotted period of support time that you may call upon for ad-hoc site content changes, telephone advise & guidance, indeed anything you require assistance with around your site.

Security

Our packages include various features to secure your site. We backup your site to an external source, entirely outside your hosting environment, thus allowing restoration of service in the event of catastrophic host failure, if compromised through hacking or as a result of failure of software updates.

Site availability is monitored and alarms automatically triggered if your site goes down, allowing for swift intervention to minimise customer impact.

Security scans are performed daily across your site to identify any evidence of hacking, allowing swift mitigation activities to be triggered where this occurs.

Updates

We keep your core WordPress software, your themes and your plug-ins up-to-date with latest releases, patches and security fixes. Where WebUp Website Designs has developed your site, we will retain our developers licences on your site for updates to our standard software set, so that you do not need to procure your own licences.

Status

Our monthly report advises you what has happened to & metrics around your site for the preceding calendar month. Depending on the maintenance package chosen, we report on:

  • Updates undertaken
  • Status of backups
  • Uptime
  • Security scans
  • Analytics
  • SEO status

FAQs

Do I need to sign up for a year or more ?
No. Our maintenance packages have no lock-in period. You pay on a month-by-month basis & can cancel at any time without penalty.
My host already performs backups, isn't this enough ?
Many host-providers perform some form of site backup. Our backup service provides greater assurance by storing your data outside your host environment, keeping the two separate from one-another. We keep all your backups for 90-days, allowing you to fallback to earlier revisions as required. We can restore your site through the click of a button, you don’t need to wait in a support queue with your host. Lastly, should you decide to change host provider, we can utilise the latest backup to migrate your site.

If anything goes wrong, do you fix it ?
The most likely incidents that can arise are

  • Update failures, or updates leading to conflicts between plug-ins/Wordpress
  • Licence expired on plug-in or theme
  • Your site being down
  • A security alert indicating your site has been compromised

In the event of maintenance upgrades triggering a conflict, we will regress your site to it’s pre-update status.

In all cases, we will contact you to advise you of the issue. The allotted support time from your package can be used towards corrective action of the issue. If the issue requires effort beyond the allotted support time to resolve, this would be charged at an hourly rate or, for any major work (e.g. plugin no longer supported and alternative required) per quotation.

In the case of significant incident (e.g. major site hack & compromise), we may take emergency steps – which may include taking your site offline – to minimise further damage before contacting you.

Do I still have access to my WordPress admin account ?
Yes you do – it’s still your site. But we recommend that you access your site backed via an Editor account, not Admin account to minimise the risk of accidental site damage. Please be mindful that if you initiate software updates to any elements of your site yourself, these will be outside the workflow of the maintenance package and, if a fallback is required, data may be lost in the process.

Do you update everything whenever a new version is available ?
Usually – but not always. If we are aware that software developers have issued a new major release to their product & that this release provides no direct benefit to you (i.e. new functions you don’t use; not security related), we may defer carrying out upgrades until such time as any early-release bugs have been addressed through later update increments.

My host has emailed me about some problem, what do I do ?
If you need our help, we can deal with such matters through you allotted support time.
Do you include hosting services yourself ?
No we don’t. We can recommend hosting providers who we believe are the best in their field & offer best value. This provides you with flexibility to change host provider and – indeed – website maintenance provider, with minimum disruption.
Does my support time accumulate if I don't use it.
I’m afraid not. The time allotted should be used inside one calendar month, any unused amount does not carry forward into later periods.
